Congrats to Nathan Fehlen on making it to the WIAA state wrestling tourney in Madison. Nathan went 1-2 at state and fell just one win short of making it to the podium. Great season!
The Tigers traveled to Wausau West High School on Saturday to compete in the WIAA Divison 1 Sectional. The top 2 in each weight class advanced to the state tournament. Leading the team was senior Nathan Fehlen, who placed 2nd at 160 pounds to punch his ticket to state. This is his second consecutive trip to state. Also placing were Brandon Dennis in 3rd place at 126, Dylan Wachter in 4th place at 152, and Travis Messer in 4th place at 195.

New Richmond hosted a WIAA Division 1 Regional on Saturday and came in 4th place as a team, scoring 147.5 points. They qualified 9 wrestlers for Sectionals next weekend in Wausau. Those wrestlers continuing on include:

After struggling a bit the past 2 weeks in closing out their dual schedule, the Tigers came into the Middle Border Conference tournament with plenty to prove. Despite being without 182 pound starter Jake LaVenture, who was out sick, the team wrestled up to their potential and finished in 3rd place on the day. Their team score left them only 1.5 points behind Somerset for 2nd place. Ellsworth again won the team championship handily to continue their reign over the conference.
The Tigers sent 4 wrestlers to the finals and came away with 3 conference champions - Brandon Dennis at 126, Dylan Wachter at 152, and Nathan Fehlen at 160. Ryan Muller finished as runner-up at 220 pounds. Other place-winners included Matt Harle (5th) at 106, Cayden Henning (4th) at 120, Tyler Dennis (3rd) at 132, Devon Denison (5th) at 138, Joe Powers (4th) at 145, Travis Messer (3rd) at 195, and Anders LeMire (6th) at 285.

New Richmond hit the road on a frigid Saturday and headed to Chippewa Falls to take part in their invitational. The Tigers wrestled well and came away with the 2nd place team plaque, finishing only behind Clear Lake in the 11 team field. Four Tiger wrestlers reached the championship match, with 3 of them bringing home 1st place hardware. Champions were Brandon Dennis at 126, Dylan Wachter at 152, and Nathan Fehlen at 160, while Tyler Dennis finished in 2nd place at 132. Jake LaVenture (182) and Ryan Muller (220) also recorded top 3 finishes as they both took 3rd place.
Both the Varsity and JV wrestling squads were in action on Saturday.
The Varsity Tigers hosted their annual New Richmond Invitational at the high school, with 10 teams competing this year. The competition was tough and the kids battled hard all day. Leading the team were Tyler Dennis and Nathan Fehlen, who each went 4-1 on the day and took 2nd place at 132 and 160 pounds respectively. Capturing 3rd place were Brandon Dennis at 126 and Jake LaVenture at 182 pounds. They also finished with 4-1 records. The Varsity will be back in action on Thursday when they host Ellsworth in a conference dual, and then they travel to Chippewa Falls on Saturday as they look to improve on their 7th place team finish at the NRI.
12 Tiger wrestlers also travelled to Eau Claire on Saturday to wrestle in the JV regional qualifier. The team fared very well, with 5 of those wrestlers placing in the top 3 of their weight classes to advance to the JV state tournament in Wausau 2 weeks from now. Quentin Hayes at 152 and Anders LeMire at 285 pounds each won regional championships. Placing 3rd were John Borgstrom at 145, Reece Lucas at 160, and Emily Danulik at 182. The Tigers also had a few other wrestlers compete well and narrowly missed out on advancing.
New Richmond brought home the tournament championship, led by champs Cayden Henning, Dylan Wachter, and Jake LaVenture. Brandon Dennis and Nathan Fehlen took 2nd, and Tyler Dennis and CJ Moeller took 3rd. Nice job Tigers!
The Tiger wrestlers had a successful Parents Night match last night as they defeated conference foe Prescott 42-24. CJ Moeller started things rolling with a 9-5 decision at 160 pounds, as he avenged a defeat from last weekend. From there the Tigers were able to tack on some bonus point wins with 4 pins, 2 forfeits, and another decision to pull out the victory. In limited JV action, Joe Powers also added a win for the home squad. The JV and Varsity are back on the mat this Saturday at the Trinity Invitational, located at the Trinity school at River Ridge in Eagan, MN. The tentative schedule is for JV to start at 8 am and finish up prior to the Varsity beginning at 10 am.

New Richmond traveled to Eau Claire North to take part in the tough Husky Invitational and came away with an 8th place team finish out of 21 schools. The Tigers were led by Nathan Fehlen, who placed 3rd at 170 lbs. Other top finishers for New Richmond were Jake LaVenture earning 5th place at 182, Brandon Dennis taking 6th place at 132, and Travis Messer winning 7th place at 195. The team next will be in action this Thursday at home versus Prescott, which is also Parents Night.
The Tigers started quickly in last night's dual versus St. Croix Central and never looked back on their way to a 63-9 victory. The dual meet win came on the strength of 8 pins, along with 2 forfeits. This evens the Tigers MBC conference record at 1-1 on the young season. The Tigers JV also wrestled well on the night, getting victories from Jacob Hall, Quentin Hayes, Braeden Gefeke, and Reece Lucas. Both the JV and Varsity squads will be back in action on Saturday at the Husky Invite at Eau Claire North.

The Tigers competed at Lakeville North on Saturday. Leading the team with 2nd place finishes were Brandon Dennis at 132 and Nathan Fehlen at 170. Also placing were Travis Messer taking 3rd place at 195, Jake LaVenture 4th at 182, Adam Stener 4th at 220, Matt Harle 6th at 106, and Trevor Hildebrandt 6th at 126. The team finished with 103 pts and in 8th place overall.
11/30/17 - The Tiger varsity wrestlers opened the season with a narrow 31-40 loss to Baldwin-Woodville on Thursday night. Although the matches were split 7-7 between the teams, the Tigers weren't able to get enough bonus points to pull out the win. Registering wins were Cayden Henning, Tyler Dennis, Dylan Wachter, Nathan Fehlen, Jake LaVenture, Travis Messer, and Anders LeMire.
Logan Denucci was also victorious during the JV matches.
